Is Climate Controlled Storage Right for You?

Climate-controlled storage units are designed to protect sensitive items from temperature fluctuations and high humidity, making them ideal for items that can be damaged by extreme conditions. Here are the types of items that should be stored in climate-controlled units:

1. Electronics

  • Computers, TVs, Audio Equipment, and Appliances: Extreme heat or cold can damage sensitive electronic components, including hard drives, screens, and internal circuits. A climate-controlled unit helps prevent malfunction or data loss.

2. Artwork and Antiques

  • Paintings, Sculptures, and Collectibles: Humidity and temperature changes can cause warping, cracking, fading, or deterioration of valuable artworks and antiques. A climate-controlled environment preserves their condition and value.

3. Wood Furniture

  • Chairs, Tables, and Cabinets: Wood is sensitive to temperature and humidity. Fluctuations can cause the wood to crack, warp, or develop mold. Storing wooden furniture in a climate-controlled unit helps prevent this damage.

4. Documents and Paperwork

  • Important Papers, Files, and Photos: Paper items can degrade quickly in high humidity or extreme temperatures, causing them to yellow, tear, or become brittle. A climate-controlled unit keeps them safe from deterioration.

5. Musical Instruments

  • Guitars, Pianos, Violins, and Brass Instruments: These delicate instruments can warp, crack, or go out of tune due to changes in temperature and humidity. A climate-controlled unit ensures they maintain their integrity.

6. Vinyl Records, CDs, and Tapes

  • Music Collections: These can warp or degrade in fluctuating temperatures. A climate-controlled unit protects valuable collections from heat or moisture damage.

7. Leather Goods

  • Clothing, Furniture, Bags, and Shoes: Leather can crack, fade, or develop mildew in a hot or humid environment. Storing leather goods in a climate-controlled unit keeps them from drying out or becoming damaged.

8. Wine and Spirits

  • Wine Collections: Wine should be stored in stable, cool temperatures to prevent it from aging prematurely or spoiling. A climate-controlled unit provides the ideal environment for wine storage.

9. Books and Textiles

  • Books, Fabrics, and Clothing: Humidity can cause mold, mildew, or mold spots on books, clothing, and other fabrics. Climate-controlled units protect these items from moisture damage and ensure they remain in pristine condition.

10. Medical Supplies and Pharmaceuticals

  • Prescription Drugs, Medical Equipment, and Supplies: Many medical items require specific temperature and humidity levels for preservation. A climate-controlled unit ensures that sensitive medical supplies do not degrade or lose efficacy.

11. Photography Equipment

  • Cameras, Lenses, and Film: Exposure to extreme temperatures and humidity can ruin delicate camera equipment and film. A climate-controlled unit helps keep these items functioning and free from damage.

By storing temperature-sensitive and delicate items in a climate-controlled unit, you can ensure their preservation and prevent potential damage caused by environmental conditions.
